About Us
Our Story
Southern Maine Stockyard began as a simple but powerful dream: to raise a family with access to clean, honest food, the freedom to homeschool, and a lifestyle rooted in hard work and tradition.
Founder Shallie is a fourth-generation cattleman, raised on her grandfather’s ranch where she spent her childhood caring for horses, working cattle, and learning how to tend to injured animals. Many nights were spent in the barn, hands-on, learning by doing—skills that would shape her for life.
At 17, Shallie enlisted in the Army to serve her country. During her tours in Iraq, she witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of food insecurity on local communities. That experience stayed with her and ultimately shaped her mission: to help build stronger, more self-reliant food systems back home.
